18K Gold vs 14K Gold
Purity, colour and durability — and how to choose the right gold for you.
What the numbers mean
18K gold is 75% pure gold by weight, stamped 750. 14K is 58.5%, stamped 585. The remaining alloy determines colour: copper for rose, palladium or nickel and a rhodium finish for white.
How they differ in wear
14K is marginally harder and more scratch-resistant. 18K is denser, warmer in colour, and holds a deeper finish — and its higher purity is less likely to provoke skin sensitivity.
